Am800's CLASS OF THE WEEK!!

On November 1^st, 2012 each child will receive a pancake breakfast from McDonald’s and an embroidered backpack.  Arms Bumanlag, on-air AM800 staff will visit the school and talk to the students.  The student’s voices may be recorded and aired on AM800.  Each student is required to fill out a ‘Full Release and Indemnity’ in order to participate and receive the class prizes.  Please return the forms on Monday. There are 2 spots that need to be filled out.

Literacy Bags have been a great success.  Students have been sharing some of their work.  Thank you to all parents for participating and working with your child.  If you have returned the first bag, another will be coming home on Monday!

Students took turns creating the class calendar.  We will add pictures and key words to help recall important events that have occurred in the classroom.

We made a Text to Self and World Connection.  We read the story 'We're Going On A Nature Hunt' by Steve Metzger, and compared our adventures!

A Nature Walk to Lanspeary Park

We had a great time during our Nature Walk to Lanspeary Park today. The children were able to be reporters and scientists observing the wonderful animals, insects and all the beautiful things that grow in the environment. Everyone was excited to have their own clip board, pencil and tally sheet when we left on our adventure.

Their job was to find the items on their sheet of paper and make a tally mark each time they found one. When we were done they counted to see how many different things they found. 

 

During the walk, the students were also given a "duct tape bracelet" and were able to personalize it by collecting some of things they found. 

Our First 2 Weeks

The first two weeks have been very busy for us.  We are proud to announce that during reorganization we have added a forth classroom which adds an additional teacher and ECE to our Early Years Team.

The children have been very busy getting to know one another and exploring new learning activities everyday. 

Our focus has been:

• nature in the Fall

National Tree Day - September 22nd
We are very fortunate that Windsor Park and Recreation donated a tree to Prince Edward School on behalf on the Kindergarten classes.  On Wednesday the students watched the gardeners plant a Maple tree on school property.  Together we sang 'The Green Grass Grows' and learned that plants need water, soil, and sunlight to grow.

Pear Inquiry 
- Some students noticed pears in the classroom.  Through discussion students predicted the pear seeds would be red, black or green.  Once we cut the pear open, we discovered they were white, similar to apple seeds.  Students wanted to taste our pears.  Some children thought they tasted like apples while others responded that the 'pear tasted like a pear'!

On Friday, students in the House Centre wanted to have a birthday party.  They began bringing materials from around the classroom to create realistic cupcakes.  They used 'Play-doh' for the dough and wooden pegs to represent birthday candles.  They noticed that the tin makes 12 cupcakes, and so they needed 12 candles.
